John Knox

John Knox (1514–1572) was a Scottish Protestant reformer and the founder of the Presbyterian Church in Scotland. Initially a Catholic priest, he became a key figure in the Scottish Reformation, advocating for a break from the Roman Catholic Church and the establishment of a reformed Protestant church. Influenced by the teachings of John Calvin, Knox led the resistance against Catholicism, particularly under the reign of Mary, Queen of Scots. His efforts led to the establishment of Presbyterianism as the dominant form of worship in Scotland, significantly shaping the country’s religious landscape. Mary Queen of Scots is quoted as saying, “I fear the prayers of John Knox more than all the assembled armies of Europe.”

John Knox Quote

Prayer is an earnest and familiar talking with God.
